SALT LAKE CITY, Utah The Utah Jazz took advantage of flu-stricken Alonzo Mourning's absence to score a 101-89 win as the Miami Heat's defense fell apart on Monday.

Utah's Bryon Russell led the way with 20 points, Karl Malone added 19 and Rookie Jarron Collins had 18.

With mourning on the court Miami had not allowed 100 points in its previous eight games, winning seven.

The Jazz shot 71 percent from the field in the first quarter alone and went on to end a three-game skid.

Utah had mauled Miami 95-56 in their last meeting on December 18, setting a team record for fewest points allowed.

Miami's Rod Strickland had 16 points and five assists and Eddie Jones and Brian Grant scored 12 points each, reported Reuters.

In Memphis, rookie Pau Gasol played a starring role as the Grizzlies halted a seven-game losing slide with a 119-115 overtime victory over the Los Angeles Clippers.

Gasol scored 23 points and Stromile Swift added 22 for Memphis.

Memphis had a 98-89 advantage with 2:47 left in regulation before Los Angeles closed with an 11-2 run to force the extra session.

Elton Brand, who scored 26 points, capped the run with a three-point play with 26 seconds remaining.

But 21-year-old Gasol regained control and scored with 3:44 to go in overtime to put Memphis ahead for good at 104-102.

He came up with the game's key play 34 seconds later by drawing Brand's sixth foul and making 1-of-2 free throws.

LA's Michael Olowokandi matched a career-high 27 points.

Los Angeles have not beaten the Grizzlies on the road since November 16, 2000.
